Join the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival in New York (Fully-Funded)

Description:

PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival is a joint initiative of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) that invites the world’s youth to submit original and creative videos focusing on the themes of migration, diversity and social inclusion. By supporting the distribution of youth-produced media, PLURAL+ recognizes youth as powerful agents of positive social change in a world often characterized by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions.

Awards: The PLURAL+ International Jury will choose three videos (one for each age group) and award them with the PLURAL+ International Jury Award.

  • These awardees will receive an invitation (travel and accommodations expenses paid) to attend the PLURAL+ Awards Ceremony held in New York City.
  • UNAOC and IOM will select one video for the “PLURAL+ Award for the Prevention of Xenophobia”. The winner will also be invited (travel and accommodations expenses paid) to attend the PLURAL+ 2018 Award Ceremony in New York.
  • PLURAL+ Partners will also give additional awards. In 2017, PLURAL+ Partner Awards included:
    • AFS Intercultural Programs will choose 1 video and award it with $500 USD as the “PLURAL+ 2017 AFS Intercultural Award”.
    • Fundació Forum Universal de les Cultures will choose 1 video and award it with €500 EUR as the “PLURAL+ 2017 BARCELONA FORUM Award”.
    • FERA will choose 1 video and award it with $500 USD as the “PLURAL+ 2017 FERA LUCERO Award”.
    • UFPFF will choose 1 video and award it with an invitation to attend the PLURAL+ Awards Ceremony in New York City as the “PLURAL+ 2017 UFPFF Award”.
    • COPEAM will award 1 video from the 18-25 years old category with an invitation to COPEAM Annual Conference as the “PLURAL+ 2017 COPEAM Award”.
    • The Media Education Centre will choose 3 videos and award each of them with the participation of 1 author from each of three films on the World Summit on Media for Youth 2018 as the “PLURAL+ DANUBE 2017”, “PLURAL+ BALKAN 2017” and “PLURAL+ GLOBAL Kids for Kids Award 2017” (awards do not include traveling and participation fee).
    • Reza Visual Academy will choose 3 videos and award each of them with 1 signed book by author REZA as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Reza Visual Academy Awards” .
    • Nexos Alianza Association will choose 1 video and award it with 1 Pack of 8 DVDs “Conoce el Espíritu Nexos” and a Diploma as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Nexos Award”.
    • CHINH India will choose 3 videos and award each of them with a CHINH medal & certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 CHINH India Award”.
    • CDI-Togo will award 1 video with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 CDI Award”.
    • IOM MRTC will choose 1 video and award it with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 IOM Migration Research & Training Centre Award”.
    • The Paley Center for Media will choose 2 videos and award each of them with Best in Media Citizenship as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Paley Center for Media Award”.
    • Reel Grrls will choose 1-2 video(s) and award each of them with the Future is Feminist Award as the “PLURAL+ 2017 The Future is Feminist Award”.
    • Scalabrini International Migration Network (SIMN) will choose 1 video and award it with a plaque as the “PLURAL+ 2017 SIMN Award”.
    • TAL (Television America Latina) will choose 1 video and award it with a diploma as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Television America Latina Award”.
    • WADADA News for Kids will choose 1 video and award it with Excellence and Innovation in Using Media for Change Award as the “PLURAL+ 2017 WADADA News for Kids youth prize”.
    • Children’s Film Festival Seattle will choose 1 video and award it with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Children’s Film Festival Seattle Award”.
    • SIGNIS (World Catholic Association for Communication) will choose 1 video and award it with a diploma and a medal as the “PLURAL+ 2017 SIGNIS”.
    • Peacemaker Corps Association will choose 3 videos and award each of them with a Peacemaker Champion Award as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Peacemaker Corps Award”.
    • Tribeca Film Institute will choose 1 video and award it with a pass to the Tribeca Film Festival as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Tribeca Award”.
    • Balobeshayi will choose 3 videos and award each of them with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 BALOBESHAYI AWARD” as well as choosing between a free online video training session or featuring as a consultant for one of their next videos.
    • UN Video will choose 2 videos and award them with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 UN Video Award” and the “PLURAL+ 2017 UN Video Award Against Xenophobia”
    • I am a Migrant will choose 1 video and award it with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 I Am A Migrant Award”
    • Together UN will choose 1 video and award it with a certificate as the “PLURAL+ 2017 Together Award” and screenings in the video-makers’ home country

Eligibility:

  • Entrants to PLURAL+ must be of maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
  • People appearing in the video do not have to be youth. However the videos must reflect the youth’s opinions or reflections about migration, diversity and social inclusion.
  • Multiple youth may work together to make one video, as long as all members of the group are maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video submitted to PLURAL+.
  • Only minimal roles of any adults (over the age of 25) involved in the making of the video (e.g. educators, teachers, instructors, etc.) is acceptable (group coordination, technical support, renting equipment, etc.). It is understood that particularly for the age group of up to 12 years, educators could have a more substantial role in the production of the video.
  • If multiple youth work together on one video then the video will be judged in the age category of the entrant who has a primary role in the creation of the video.
  • Immediate family members (siblings, children and grandchildren) of IOM, UNAOC and the jurors for the PLURAL+ Video Festival are not eligible to enter.
