Founder and creative director of Dumyé: Dolls with Purpose
United Arab Emirates
Sahar founded Dumyé, a social enterprise dedicated to children, in 2013. Indeed, the principle of Dumyé is that for every purchased doll, they gift a doll to an orphan or vulnerable child in need and allow them to make it their own through an art workshop. Sahar was born and raised in the suburbs of Washington DC by a Lebanese father and a Palestinian mother. The idea of creating her company came from her own daughter. She wanted to offer her a very special and unique gift and that’s when she thought of handcrafting herself a doll for her daughter. It all started with a gift and her company has now become an eco-friendly, limited edition, handcrafted dolls company. The dolls are currently retailed in Australia, the United Kingdom, the United States and the United Arab Emirates. Ahlan! magazine acknowledged me in their 2014 annual ‘Hot 100’ for being one of the leading entrepreneurs in the region and in August 2014 Good Magazine named me their ‘Home Grown Hero’. Most recently Dumyé has been selected as a global finalist, representing The Gulf, in The Venture – a worldwide search for the most promising social entrepreneurs.
Sahar has previous experience in the branding business and has mainly built her career in the United States through brand consulting and being a creative director until 2012. She graduated from the Atlanta College of Art with a Bachelor Fine Art degree.
